AUSTRALIAN GOVERNORS.
ATTACKED BY MR ARTHUR LYNCH, M.P. Received June 30, 9.55 p.m. LONDON, June 30. In the House of Commons, Mr Arthur Lynch, Nationalist member tor West Clare, criticised the proposal for General Sir lan Hamilton to inspect the troops of the* Overseas Dominions as an attempt to graft upon the Australians a bad system of Imperialism foreign to Australian sentinrent. He added that Australian .Governors were only a pale reflex of the bad English system. ■* Really distinguished men were, he said, never sent out, whom the people could honour. . • ' Colonel Seely: What about Sir William McGregor? Mr Lynch: There were exceptions, but the custom was to send out a man whose only reputation was a title. Colonel Seely, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, sharply controverted Mr Lynch's attack on Australian Governors. He did not believe the British Government should use a secretariat to spur on the Dominions.
