F. T. Harding, asked the Council to extend the water main tu his section at tha onu of Walton's Avenue. It wag decided that the Engineer report on tho application. The following report of a Committee meeting held on Thursday, June 2nd, was read: —A report of the Borough Engineer upon the proposed sewerage of the Borough dated the 14th day of April, 1910, and made pursuant to Minute No. 852 of the 26th of October, 1909, submitted to the last meeting of the Council was considered. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr.. Rigg, the Committee recommend the Council to adopt the report of the Borough Engineer, and be an instruction to make the necessary arrangements to take a poll of the ratepayers upon a proposal to borrow the sum of £&1,000 and sub' ject thereto to raise tho necessary loan fjr trie amount required and of ail other matters incidental thereto. The Mayor said that he was of opinion that the final adoption of the report in regard to the drainage scheme should be held over, as there were a few matters that required attention, including a suggestion by Messrs McGregor Brcs,, of another site on tin ir property not so expensive a a ihe original one selected by the Council's Engineer. The latter had not yet had time to say whether this new sit 3 was as good as the. original one. j Cr. Ewington said that on the previous occasion when the matter came before the Council it was at a Committee meeting. The press were not j present and proceedings were taken [ m camera. As this was the first I occasion on which the matter came before an open Council, Councillors should now be given an opportunity to express an opinion. After some further discussion the rainutts were adopted, the question of the drainage scheme being held over for four weeks. It wss decided to release G. C. Clarke from his lease of land at the headworks of the water supply. On the motion of Cr. Temple, it was decided that Pownall street be graded and metalled 10ft wide be- | tween and Cornwall streets, j the cost of such work to be charged I against this year's maintenance.
