GENERAL lAN HAMILTON APPOINTED. QUESTION OP DUTIES. Received June 21, 9.15 p.m. LONDON. June 21. It is officially announced that Maj.ir General lan Hamilton has been appointed Comftiander-in-Cbief of the Mediterranean and InspectorGeneral of Overseas Forces. In view iif Lord Kitchener's and General French's recent inspections, Viscount Midlelon asked whether the Commander-in-Chief would inspect a!'- parts of the world. Also cocaman .1 the troops in Egypt, Malta, and Gibraltar. He also asked whether thy multifarious assortment of duties v-'ould be continued, and what funct.ons the Duke of Cun nau?t fount' impossible to discharge with advantage to" the country; •>lso what duties Lord Kitchener fi'und incompatible with a Fieid Marsal's position. Lord Lucas hoped to table the p;<p«rs on the subject shortly. Mr Hallar.e h?s issued a statement regarding the inspections of 'he Dominion's Government, and he proposes to discuss the arrangements :»t an Imperial Conference in 1911.
