PAHIATUA NEWS.
(Own Correspondent.) Tuesaav. At a meeting of the Pahiatua Chamber of Commerce, held last evening, Messrs W. Tosawill and L. T. Herbert were appointed the Chamber's delegates to the meeting to be held at Palmerston to consider the formation of a North Island Railway League. The Borough Council, at a meeting held last night, decided to levy a rate of 2|d in the £ for the preceding twelve months. The headmaster of the l J ahiatua School, Mr J. Thomas, reports that the attendances for the month were: —Roll number 273, average attendance 245, percentage of attendance 90. The Borough Council has decided to reduce the outdoor stair to foi;r men. The Greytown Golf Club will play the local club here on Saturday. Mr and Mrs ri. P. oi Pahiatua, who arrived at Avo< - mouth, Bristol, at the end <:f January, have just reached Ltwkn. The voyage to England was taken on account ot Mr 3 Girdwocd's health, which has greatly benefited by the change. They spent three weeks m Monte Video on the way. From Avoamouth they went to Edinburgh and Glasgow,-visiting the home of Mr uirdwood's father at Rothesay. Thence to Ireland, where at Kilworth they stayed a while with Mr Girdwood'a aunt, tha Countess of Moantcashell, afterwaria visiting Cork and Killarney. They intend visiting the Englioh Lakes and the Scottish Highlands, and exp-ct to leave on their return to New Zealand about July next.
