Mr Justice Edwards has gone to Napier.

The Hon. T. Mackenzie is on a visit to Taranaki, in connection with the Stratford-Ongarue railway. Master P. "H. Dudson, of Carterton, has been appointed to be a cadet in the Native Land Court at Gisborne.

Whiri Nikora. a well-known native, died suddenly at Otaki yesterday. He was very popular, and was •once a well-known footballer. He was about forty years of age. Mr T. Roper-Penning, of Auckland, has been appointed electrical powerhouse superintendent by the Gisborne Borough Council. There were thirty applications for? the position.

Mr Leo D. Chateau, representing <jlarke and Meyneil, arrived in Masterton yesterday-to make arrangements for the production on July 2nd of "Pete," Hall Caine's rirama■tised version of "The Manxman."-

Mr James Y. Wilson, a wellknown hide merchant, died suddenly at his residence, Mornington, Dunedin. He had been complaining for two days of a cold in the head. His wife went to England recently on a >h iliday trip

The sodden death is recorded of Mr Frank Fairbair -. manager of Messrs Fairbairn, Wright and Company. Wellington. He had been confined to his bed for thrse weeks with an attack of pneumonia, but was improving rapidly, and believed >to be out of danyer, when he passed away, death being due to heart failure.

The death is announced of Mr A. G. Manthel in his 71st year, at Wellington. The late Mr Manthel was born •in Paris, and came to New Zealand over forty years ago. He became interested in a wine and spirit business in the early days, but later became a commission agent. Years ago Mr Manthel acted as interpreter when French ships called at Wellington.

Mr Alexander J. Fraser, of the staff of the United Press Association; Ltd., is resigning the position of manager at Sidney, in order to take up a responsible appointment in London with the? Australian Cable Association, which ha 3 for years been supplying cable news to various Australasian newspapers. Mr Fraaer entered the Association's office in Wellington when he was a lad, and after nearly eight years' service he was about twenty-two years aso, to the posiHon of manager at Sydney. Mr G Bradley, who has been Mr Fraser's assistant for the past twelve years, has been appointed to the charge of the ' Sydney 'Office. Mr A. G. Macfarland, on'the staff of the Association for over a year, is to be stationed permanently at Wakapuaka.
