PAHIATUA NEWS.

(Own Correspondent.) | Friday. j THE RAILWAY TIME-fABLE. The Pahiatua Chamber of Commerce hag forwarded a letter to the Minister of Railways, bringing under his notice the very inconvenient times the trains arc running in connection with the Pahiatua district, more especially the train which passes through Pahiatua at 10 55 a.m. north to Woodvilie. This train leaves Cross' Creek at 5.25 a m.. Wondville at 11.45 am. The train from Dannevirke also arrives at Woodvilie at 10 25 a.m., and doas not depart therefrom again until 11.45 a.m., arriving at falmerston North at 12.48 p.m. The train for New Plymouth departs from Palmerston North at 11.42 a.m., and the train from Wanganui departs from' Palmerston North at 12.35 p.m., and the Pahiatua Chamber of Commerce desires to kaow whether the Department could not see its way clear to so arrange for the train leaving Cross' CreeK at 5.25 a.m. to be pushed forward either by travelling a little faster or making shorter stops at Maaterton, Eketahuna and Woodvills, and so be made to arrive at Palmerston J\North in such time as to connect with the train leaving Palmerston North for New Plymouth at 11.42 a.m. If this could be done the Chamber is of opinion that it will tend to serve the whole of the Wairarapa, Woodvilie, and Pahiatua districts for through connection to Wanganui and New JtTymouth districts. The Masterton Chamber, of Commerce were asked to support the proposals contained in the letter, and it was decided at the meeting of the Council yesterday afternoon to inform the Pahiatua Chamber that the j Masterton Chamber was fully m sympathy with the desire for an improvement, and that as the question would' come before the Railway Conference at Palmerston'North next Friday, they did not consider it worth while moving further in the matter at! present.

The golf match which was to be played between a Masterton and a Pahiatua team at the Lansdowne Links to-morrow, has been postponed on account of the Pahiatua Club being unable to get a "team away. The following team will represent the Pahiatua Football Club in their match with Mangatainoka, at Pahiatua, on Saturday next: —Eccleton, Ebbett 12), Morrison, Murray, Yule (2), Jacques, Sperring, Fulcher, Hall (2), Farrell. Fairbrother, Eddie, Mr Bradstock has been appointed referee.

It is reported that on Thursday, at Quinlan's Mill, a nun named Nicholl was caught on the shaft an' l seriously injured. He was conveyed to the Pabiatua Hospital, where he died the same night. He k-aves a wife and two children, who reside at Hukanui.
