SERIOUS FIRE AT MANGAWEKA.
FOUR SHOPS DESTROYED.
By Telegraph—Press Association. MANGAWEKA. June 14. A disastrous fire occurred in Ma> gaWcika at six o'clock fast night, destroying four business places, and a dwelling. Thosewho suffered serious loss were Carter, jeweller, Campbell, hairdresser, and tobacconist and keeper of a large billiard saloon, and Mrs Summers, who kept a private boardinghouse. A butchers shop was also damaged. The fire originated in the back portion oi Carter's premises', during the temporary absence of the owner. Carter and Campbell are uninsured, and are heavy losers. Mrs Summers loses heavily, only having £350 on the house and furniture. The greater portion of the goods were salvaged. Fortunately there was no wind and the buildings on the opposite side narrowly escaped, other insurances are not yet available.
