Tne Worksop Dredge returns for the week are 14oz lldwts. The dredge master reports that the return was got from the poor side next the creek, part of which is now dropping. In accepting the position of a VicePresident of the Masterton Navy League, Mr W. H. Beetham has donated a sum of £5 to the funds of the institution. There will be a meeting of the members of the Masterton branch of the Navy League at the Borough Council Chambers at 8 o'clock this evening. All members and intending members are requested to attend. Mr P. Costin, licensee of the Ta ratahi Hotel, requests us to state that there is no foundation in fact for the rumour that he is relinquishing his hotel, which he will continue to conduct on the same exemplary lines as heretofore. , At the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Licensing Committee, held 1 at Carterton last week, the sanitary • and police reports on the Tenui I Hotel were decidedly good. The . police intimated that the house was conducted well The Bench granted ' Mr W. C. Page a renewal of his li- ' cense without comment. A for taxation of the : plaintiffs' costs in the case of Maunsell and Hart v. Parker and Udy ■ came before the Deputy Registrar at ! Masterton on Friday morning, and was adjourned by the Deputy Regis--1 trar for consideration by a Judge of > the Supreme Court. Notice of appeal i has been given by the defendants in , connection with the judgment given on the 4th inst.. which was for the 1 plaintiffs for £BO and costs. Mr P. L. ; Hoilings appeared for plaintiffs, and 1 Mr D. K. Logan for the defendants. Mr A. R. Wallis, of Carterton, was the successful tenderer for the . erection of a cheese factory on Car- , rington Settlement, the contract price ' being £843. There were six tenderers in all, including s» number from Masterton, and the prices ranged up ! to£969 t The building has to be completed by the end of August, and will be ready for next season's operations. ' A meeting of the Masterton Racing Club was held on Saturday. There ■ were present,—Messrs Macara (in the chair), Buick, 0. C. Cooper, W. Cooper, A. G. Pilmer, D. McLachlan, F. E. Dorset, A. J. Welch, J. lorns, D. Caselberg, D. Donald. A letter was received from the Wellington Racing CJub, enclosing the report of the special committee appointed to revise the issue of complimentary tickets, and free luncheon tickets, and also forwarding a list of charges of admission, Viz , Is ; outside and 7s 6d saddling paddock, . and also expressing the opinion that , everyone should pay for admission, including owner?, trainers, etc., and ' that each owner to receive £1 for each horse per day that starts. The recommendations were agreed to. The , report of the committee appointed to devise means to curtail the expenditure was adopted. The Commissioner of Taxes wrote claiming 1\ per cent of the receipts for the luncheon booth and race cards. At the performance of the operetta "The Egyptian Princess," to be produced in the Town Hall on July sth, the following will, take the leading characters:—"Queenof Egypt," Miss E. Finnis; "Princess Aida," Mrs H. S Claughton; "Ladies of the Court," Misses U. Richards and B. Johnson; "Alva, a favourite slave," Miss V. Edwards; "Queen Grania," Mrs A. Pragnell: "Herub, a soothsayer/' Miss M. Morgan;" Princess Tabubu," Mr Harry Hall; "Kin K '«i HeraJd," Mr C. Carley. The Egyptian Dances will be arranged by Mrs Kendall, the operetta will be produced and staged with rich Egyptian costumes, scenic effects, and full orchestral accompaniment. The orchestral leader will be Mr R. Boyes. the pianist Miss E. Richards, and the conductor Mr H. S. Giaughton. The monthly meeting of the Ground Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association, held on Saturday morning last, was attended by Messrs W. Perry (chairman), E. Harper, G. C. Summerell, B. Rayner, J. P. Perry, J. Strang, D. McGregor, junr., and W. J. Welch. A report was received from the District Engineer re the propDsed railway siding at Sol way, showing three alternative schemes, and jt was decided that a deputation consisting of Messrs W. Perry, G. C. Summerell, and D. McGregor junr., wait upon the railway authorities in reference to the matter. It was decided that the grandstand at the Solway Showgrounds be erected by day labour Mr J. Tait's supervision. The committee resolved .that tenders, at per cord, be called for the right to cut and lemove all timoer now felled at Solway; all wood to be removed 1 on or before September 30th.
The Nireaba Dairy Company has closed down for the season. Last week they were receiving milk on alternate days. It is expected that a total of nearly £3OO will be realised as the result of Saturday's District Nurse Day Collection at Wanjrauui. The. General Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association decided on Saturday last to hold the annual meeting of the Association on. July 30th. A lad named Saba was thrown from a horse he was riding in a paddock in Dixon Street, yesterday alternoon, and had one cf his legs broken. Mr 0. C. Cooper presided over the monthly meeting of the Finance | Committee of the Masterton A. and. P. Association on Saturday morning last, there being also present — Messrs U. McGregor junr.. G. C. Snmmerell, W. P<rry, W. J. Welch, and J. D. Cruickshank. The financial position of the Association was reported an follows:—Dr balance May 14th, £1,122 19s 6d; expenditure for month, £251 15s Id; receipts for month, £lO4 12-s (sd; cheques unexpended, £SO 53 8d; balance at date, £1,219 6s sd.
