MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONTHLY MEETING. Tin monthly meeting ot tha Masterton School was held last evening, there being present--Messts R. Brown (chairmnu), A. Chapman,- C. Peny, A. Hendry, Thompson, E. H. Waddington, J. Heyhoe, and Townsend. An rpolcgy for nbsence was receivej from Rev. C. E Porter. A letter wag received from Mr N. Bunting, resigning his position of assistant ma3ter at the School. The resignation was received .-with regret. Miss R. L. Clayton wrote tegrstting th"at she could not accept the vacant position on the staff of the secondary department of the Masterton School. • The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £79 15s 7d. It was decided that the Jommittee appointed last July take steps to open ttie museum ai the School. Accounts amounting to £lB 18s 3d were passed for payment. Messrs Brown, Chapman, and Hendry were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. The headmaster submitted the following report for the past month:— Attendance—Main School, 624; average attendance 562; percentage of attendance, " 90; Side School, 177, 166, 94; secondary classes, 63, 59, 94. School re-opened on the 6th inst., after the term holiday. The attendance has been highly satisfactory for the past five months, but has commenced to suffer through a number of children being affected with minor ailments. Staff—Three members of the staff retired on the 31st u!t, namely, Mr N. D. Bunting, recond assistant, Mr H. H. Sutton, third assis'ant:, and Mis 3 I. McLar.dress, secondary assistant Mr H. Miller has been transferred fiom Carterton District High School to the position of second assistant. A relieving teacher. Miss Bradford, is filling, for a time, the position vacated in the secondary department. One of the senior absiitEnta was absent on the 19th ult., through illnesg, and one of the junior assistants through iilness, on the 6th insti Miss Bradbury, the tenth assistant on the primary staff,? has leceived an appointment urder the Hawkc'a Bay Education Board, and will retire from the staff of this school in a few weekfa' time. The report was adopted.
