TE WHARAU NOTES.

June 7. The Bachelors of Te VSharau held a most enjoyable dance last Friday in the shoolroora, when a large number of people from the surrounding district were present. The floor was in splendid order for dancing, and from twenty to thirty couples "tripped the light fantastic," until the small hours of the morning. A firstclass supper was provided, and taking everything into conaic'e .ation the bachelors have reason to feel pleased at the success of their efforts. Mr K. Douglas able carried out the duties of M.C, Extras were played by Mrs Nitz, Mrs Richards, and Miss Nicholson during the evening. Mr Reg. Vennell, the successful tenderer for Mr F. C. H Cotter's new Excelsior Store, has commenced operations, and a few weeks will see Te Wharau greatly improved by a very imposing structure. Mr A. Kennedy, who has been residing at Flat Point for some time, has returned to town this week. Mr f|A, McGregor, of Hikoranei, has left for Hawke's Bay and the Waikato, where he intends to spend a lengthy holiday. Mrs W. Kumrner has gone to spend a holiday in the Pahiatua district. The postponed householders meeting for the formation of a school committee was held on Monday last, in inclement weather. The following members were appointedMr E. Vennell, chairman, Mr F. C. H. Cotter, Mr Reeves, Mr August Nitz, and Mr C. Richards. The school reopened to-day pfter the term holidays. Mr A. Douglas, of Lands End, who has been for an extended holiday returned to the district on Monday last. Miss Bunny, of Gladstone, and Mr Tatham, of Horaewood, passed through to-day on their way to Homewood.
