*'OUND GUILTY OF ARSON. SENTENCE DEFERRED. By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., June 1. Joseph John Pawelka was again before Mr Justice Cooper at the Supreme Court to-day. The prisoner pleaded guilty to twelve charges of breaking and entering and theft. To the charge" of arson in the case of the High School fire, he pleaded not guilty. The Crown's principal evidence were the finger-prints found on a pane of glass removed from the window in the school prior to the fire; also a chain of circumstantial evidence, i.e., a bicycle stolen near the school just before the outbreak and found at the gate of a paddock whence a horse was taken which Pawelka was riding at Pahiatua; also a cadet belt from the High School found at Miller and Giorgi's. After a retirement of fifty minutes the jury returned a verdict of guilty. Sentence was deferred.
