His Excellency the Governor returned to Wellington from the South yesterday, and will leave for Auckland to-morrow. Tne Prime Minister returned to Wellington from Lyttelton by the Maori yesterday morning. Messrs H. Miller and A. A Dunedin Press Association telegram state that Mr Young, headmaster of the Caversham Public School, died suddenly at Kelso, where, he was putting in the midwinter holidays and undergoing massage treatment for rheumatism. Mrs Elizabeth Ryan, an old and j respected resident of Wellington, died at her home in Bolton streyt yestprday, aped 74. Her husband, the late Mr Daniel Ryan, one of Wellington's early settlers, pre-deceased her by some years. One of h' j r sons is Mr Daniel Ryan, chief clerk of the Huddart Fatker Lompany, in Wellington. The presentation by the householdera of Clyde Quay School to Mr W. T. Grundy, headmaster, formerly of Masterton, and Mr David Robertson, chairman of the School Committee, in commemoration of ttieir twentyone years' service, will take place in the N*-w Century Hall, Wellington, on Monday evening next. The death occurred yesterday afternoon of Mr Robert Ross, the wellknown sportsman, at his residence, Tauherenikau The deceased, who was only 45 years of age, contracted j pneumonia after a short illness. He was well known throughout the Wairarapa, and was popular and enthusiastic hi all kinds of sport. Ihe syrnpathv of a wide circle of friends will be extended to the family in their bereavement. A wife and one child are left to mourn their loss. Mrs H. Hadley, Queen Street, Masterton, and Mrs W. Burridgp. of Carterton, are sisters of the deceased, and a brother, Mr T. Ross, of Tauherene. kau.
