AN ELECTION AND ITS RESULTS.
At Eddisbury, Ch;shire, Miss Louisa Wilson, of tluxley, tisler of the deputy-master of . the Cheshire Hunt, was summoned for threatening on two dates to iiiHict loss of future the care of do>>s upon Samuel Rowley, a tailor, to in- I duce him to refrain from voting for Arthur Lyulph Stanley, the Liberal candidate for the division at the last General ele n tion. At the same Court Mr Charles Bell, a magistrate, of Norley Hall, was summoned for depriving two labourers of employment and occupation of their cottage 3. Mr Ellis Griffith prosecuted in (he j first case. Rowley walked puppies for Miss Wilson and she wrote him a letter containing the following passages:—"As I hear you are a strong supporter of Mr Stanley, you must not expect to walk any more pupa for me, as I consider it my clear duty to help those who put their country, Church, and children's religious education before their party." Sir Wiilism Cobbett, for the defence, contended that it was no ' offence to cease trading for political I reasons. , Miss WHson was committed for (.rial at ihe Asaizea. The case agsiinat Mr Bell was that because two of his men displayed Liberal colours) in a Unionist motorcar he discharged them and took their cottages. The defendant's plea was that the labourers' action insulted the owner of the car. The Bench [ dismissed ths summons.
