RED STAK v. CARTERTON

Played at Carterton and Wun by Carterton by 8 points to 3. The game opened with the Stars attacking, and the ball had not been touched more than three or four minutes when, fiom a scrum, A. Ross crossed the Carterton line near the corner. The kick from a very difficult angle went wide. Red Stars 3, Carterton nil. Play livened up considerably after this, and the backs on both sides £did good work defending. Sievers, N. McKenzie and Groube were particularly useful to Garterton with their line kicking, while in tacking, Douglas, Ball, A. Ross and Morris excelled in the Star team. Douglas had two shota at goal, one of which hit the bar, and the other just going wide. Play continued very brisk till the whistle went for fcalf-time, with the score unaltered. The Carterton backs got going in tte second spell with a series of passing rushes, but the Star tackling was sure and the pressure became relieved. Breaches of the rules by the Star players were the result of Carterton making several attempts to equalise the score. From a shot in front of the goal, taken by Masson, the ball hit the bar, and bounced back into play. The Carterton pack following up and Callister scored near the posts. Masson added the extra points. Carterton 5. Red Star 3. The Stars now made a determined effort to score, and some good work was got in by the Carterton backs. Carterton pressed and swept up the field in style, but were stopped for a breach by a Star player near the touch line, and N. McKenzie kicked a fine goal. Carterton 8, Red Stars 3. The rest of the game was very willing and ended with no addition to the score.
