TRIAL FOR MURDER. VERDICT OF NOT GUILTY. By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMBRSTON N., May 29, The case in which Pawelka was charged with the murder of Sergeant Maguire was concluded on Saturday. Counsels' addresses lasted all the morning, and his Honor Bummed up for two luiurs. The jury retired at 4 p.m., and at 5.55 returned with a verdict of not guilt?, owing to there not beirg sufficient proof. A tidar was added to the effect that the evidence conclusively proved that Detective Quartermain's shot did not kill Muguue. The prisoner maintained his cool demeanour until the verr'icfc whs given, when ha was seizsci with a severe fit of trembling. He did not speak, and on being removed to an ar.te rcom quickly recovered. There was r.o demonstration by the public. It is understood that the balance of the charges will be heard on Wednesday.
