TE WHARAU NOTES.

Own Correspondent. Friday. The Te Wharau Rifle Club held a very successful shoot on 24th May for prizes presented by the President of the Club, Mr R. Barrer. The dav being an ideal one for shooting, a large number of riflemen competed, and some excellent shooting was recorded. Although Mr F. C. H. Cotter's special prize for the first passible was not won by any member, several competitors just missed the coveted possible by one point. The conditions of the competitions were ten shots each at 200 and 500 yards. The following are the scores and prizewinners:

The annual meeting uf the Club was held m ths evening, the President, Mr Barrer, presiding. The chairman, bafore presenting the prizes, spoke at length of the various performances of the Club during tho past season, laying special emphasis on the splendid record put up by the Club's representatives at Greytown and Trentham, and considered that the performance of the Te Wharau riflemen on these occasions reflected the greatest cre.lit on the memberg compared favourably with that of any club in the Dominion. During the evening the usual busiress was transacted, and office bearers for th 6 coming season were appointed. Mr R. Barrer was again reelected President, o£ the Club, amidst great enthusiasm. Mr Buchanan, M.P., was again re-elected Patron, and Messrs Cox, Hal as, Cam- | eron, Ku;nmer, T. R. Barrer and G. Forman, were elected Vice-Presid-ents Mr W. Rummer was re elected handicapper, and Mr J. M. Grant hon. secretary; and Mr P. M. Colter treasurer. The meetins; wound up with great enthusiasm, which augura well for the future prosperity of ths Club. i*ir Reg. Vennell, of Te Wharau, has secured the contract for the building of Mr Cotter's new store, and it is understood that the work will at once be proceeded with. The school breaks-up for the first winter vacation on 27th inst. A sphndid view of the eclipse cf the mouG was obtained here about 7 o'clock on Tuesday evening, and at the same time Halley's comet presented a eplendid spectacle. The bachelors' ball which takes place to night promises to be a great success, as mo3t residents of the district have signified their intention of being present.
