ECLIPSE OF THE SUN.

OBSERVED IN AUSTRALIA. Received May 10, 12.25 p.m. SYDNEY/, May 9.

The eclipse of the sun was well observed in some part of the country. MELBOURNE, May 9. The eclipse was spoilt from a scientific standpoint by dense clouds, which flitted across the sun. It was however, seen well in the country. ADELAIDE, May 9. Though the day was cloudy it cleared during the eclipse, and a good view was obtained, HOBAR'I, May 9. After most elaborate preparations to observe the eclipse from Brum Island the sky was completely overcast with a drizzling rain. The darkness during totality was comparable to a starlit night. Twenty-six observers were engaged, but all their efforts were in vain.
