PAWELKA CHARGED WITH MURDER.
GUN EXPERT'S EVIDENCE.
BULLET SIMILAR TO. THAT IN PAWELKA'S REVOLVER.

The hearing of the charge of, murder, preferred against Joseph John Pawelka in connection with the shooting of; the late Sergeant Maguire occupied Mr Thompson, S.M., all today. The court was again crowded. Mr C. A. Loughnan, Crown Prosecutor, conducted the case, and Mr Gifford Moore appeared for Pawelka, who reserved his defence.' The chief witnesses were Hampton and Detective Quartermain, who were present during the shooting at Hampton's grounds. Dr Martin testified to the bullet wound?. ' A large number of other witnesses who have appeared in various cases repeated that portion of their evidence claimed to bear upon the shooting. The evidence dealt with articles missing from various places and alleged tu be founi in connection with Pawelka's fingerprints, caps. etc. The cap ound on lawn after the shooting was identified as having been taken from Mr Parland's house on the previous night. The bullet found in Maguire body was testified to bv Mr Tisdall, a gun expert from Wellington as similar to the unusual type of bullet found in Pawelka's revolver. A key missing from Mr Parland's back door was identified by witness and is expected to have an important bearing on the case.
The hearing will be continued tomorrow. As Pawelka's defence seas reserved, there was no cross examination.
