DANGERS OF THE DEEP.

BARQUE LOCH KATRINE DIS-

MASTED,

FuRTION OF CREW RESCUED,

FEARS FOR THE OTHERS.

Received May t>, 11.25 p.m. MELBOURNE, May 6,

Gobo Island Station reported this afternoon that the steamer Tasmania had signalled that the barque Loch Katrine, from Glasgow to Sydney, via Melbourne, was dismasted on Apnl 27th, and that ten members of the crew ware aboard the Tasmanic. The position of the Loch Katrine was given as f?Q degrees south latitude, 151 east longitude, or 360 miles due south of Tasmania. As the barque left Melbourne on April 23rd, it is considered in shipping circles to be imposaible for her to have got into such a position.

gGaptain Home, "of the Loch Garry, is of the opinion that, the position should be 40 degree south, which would place her just east of ,j?linders Island. The agents of the vessel have accepted this surmise as. correct.

The Tastnanic will not reactt Melbourne . till ten o'clock to-morrow night; Meantime efforts are being made to signal her along ihe coast, with a view of obtaining further details. Assistance is being sent to tne Loch Katrine. The barque had six hundred tons of her original general cargo aboard, and carried a crew of from 22 to 26 men, so that 12 to 16 of the crew are so far unaccounted for.
