THE MISSION.
LAST NIGHT'S MEETING
There was ano'her crowded attf ndance at the Town Hall, last evening, when Dr. Henry delivered an address on the subjc-ct of "Pitching the Tent Toward Sodom." The sermon was, of curse, based on the story of Lot pitching his tent toward Sodom. Tha old and oft-used story was made 10 live again as the preacher retold it. The downward trend of the atriarch was a vivid illustration ol a great law of the spiritual world-the law of spiritual affinity, of moral gravity. Scripture and life were alike crowded with illustrations of this law in operation. It was the counterpart in the spiritual world of gravitation in the physical, and found expression in the proverbs—A man is known by the company he keeps" and "Birds of a feather flock together." Men are borne upwards or downwards by their conduct. It was, alas! possible to break away from the most benignant influences, and go down to Sodom. The law was universally true. Great empires of the past bad committed moral and fpintual suicide by giving hospitality to vices that eat out their vitality. Men drift into sin, nations drift into sin, churches drift into moral drought and spn'ital impotence. No man was precipitated downwards, but drifted. "But," said the preacher, "the law related not simply to those who thus sold their birthright for a me3S of pottage; it was of universal application. Many a man clothed with respectability, and who made formal protession, had pitched his tent Sodorawards; had lost his moral vision; had become spiritually colour-blind.
"Christians were warned against neglect of prayer, Bible-reading, and the means of grace. These were the first steps Sodomwarda.'' The topic for to-night's address by Dr. Henry will be "Saved in a Minute."
