It na<; transpired that M. Paulhan on the last stage of his aerial flight from London to Manchester encountered aa a*r pocket, and flew sudden ■ ly into the midst of a vertical downcurrent.
The aeroplane fell twenty feet.faster than by gravity, owing to the
downward pressure. The descent was so sudden that M. Paulhan lost contact with his seat, but saved himself by firmly gripping the control lever. WELCOME IN PARIS. ENORMOUS CROWDS RECEIVE PAULHAN.

Enormous crowds welcomed M. Paulhan on his arrival in Paris, and carried him shoulder high from the Gare du Nord (northern railway terminus). FIFTY MILES IN FIFTY-ONE MINUTES. FLIGHT AT SHEERNiiSS. Received May 2, 10.5 p.m. LONDON, May 1. At Sheerness, Kent, Mr Cecil urace, upon a short Wright biplare. flew fifty mile 3in fifty-one minutes. He reached a height of 1,500 feet.
The Wright bi-plane with one aeronaut weighs 9681b. The supporting have a total area of 538 square feet." The machine is driven by tl>e Wright Brothers' own motor of fcur cylinders, and about 25 horse power, driving two wooden propellers, each of which is Bft 6in in diameter, in opposite dir» ections.

Hcudini, the music-hall artist aeroplaned a of two miles and threequarters in three minutes seventeen seconds.
To Hcudini belongs the credit of making the first aerial flight in Australasia. He uses a Voisin biplane weighing 14001bs, with a 68 h.p. petrol engine. In Victoria, last month, he covered six miles in 7mm 37sec.
