NAPIER, May 2.

On hearing a petition and objection Mr McCarthy, S.M.. to-day ordered a recount and scrutiny in connection with the recent roll on the Napier Harbour Board's loan proposal, which was los*. Mr McCarthy said the returning officer, in announcing the result on the night of the poll, had in some cases to rely on the figures given by deputies by telephone. Under the circumstances, and looking at the possibility of mistakes occurring, in telephoning, he thought a case had been made out for a recount.

The recount and sciutiny were commenced this afternoon, and will b9 continued to-morrow.
