WHAT HAPPENED IN PARIS.
PREMIER REFUSES TO ALLOW PROCESSION.
TROOPS HOLD THE CITY. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received May 2, 11.5 p.m. PARIS, May 2. The French Premier refused to allow a May Day procession. Immediately after his refusal 22,000 troops were drafted into Paris. Tha Confederation of Trades Unions issued a manifesto claiming that they were entitled to a procession, but said, "Let us avoid massacres." They added that the soldiers' orders included the instructions, "If you don't wish to be shot fire upon the revolutionists first." Many intending demonstrators resented the; changed plans, i and [denounced the organisers for ardice.

Fui!y twn thousannd children from fifty socialist Sunday schools were included in the Hyde Park demonstration on the international platform. The speakers included Frerch,. German, Hungarian and Russian bocialists. Herbert Burrows, who presided, declared that the demonstrators were not merely asking an eight or four hour day, but the formation of a great international commonwealth. Large Socialist meetings were held in many of the provinciaKtowns. Mr Will Thome declared that the Lords woald not be easily abolished. He believed the Lords, the Monarchy and the Church would all go at the same time.
