PAHIATUA NEWS.

The annual meeting of the Pahiatua Debating Club was held on Friday evening lets' 1 , Mr A. 15. Dsllaston, President, in the chair. The report presented by the secretary, Miss StonnoT, disclosed a very pleasing state of affairs. During the year the roll showed a total ot sixty odd members. The balance sheet had a credit of £3 3s Sd. The election oE officers for the ensuing year was a3 follows: —President, Mr W. H. Hawkins; Vice-Presidents, Miss Stormont and Mr C. C. McAdam; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. L. Jone3; Gommjltee, Miss Ayson, and Richardson, Messrs Taylor, Jackson, and Eames.

It wa3 decided to hold a social evening on the 13th May, and the following members were appointed tu act In conjunction with the Com mittee, viz., Mrs Bee, Misses Robins, Hughes and Little, and Mr Dallaston. The club will meet eveiy Friday evening in the Foresters' Hall.

A vote of hearty thanks was passed to the outgoing secretary, Miss Stormont.

An adjournod meet'ng of the p:o----posed Amateur Boxing Club was held last evening, Nearly thirty gentleman attended, and were enrolled as members, the club starting practically with a membershio of forty. The election of officers resulted as follows:-Patron, Mr P. Harold Smith; President, Mr W. 11. Hawkins; Vice-Presidents, Messrs Oxley, Owen, and Hodgins; secretary and treasurer, Mr Palmer; committee, Messrs Bain, Cosford, Watson, Pilkington, Thomas and Staples. Several important matters ware discussed, but it vsas thought advisable to leave the most important business to a future meeting. STOCK SALES.

Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., under instructions from the trustees in the estate of the late Mr Thos. Brown, will sell on the 10th Inst, about 2,400 sheep, cattle, etc. It is understood that a meeting of the Pahiatua Amateur Operatic Society will be held on Monday evening, to fioally decide the play to be produced, and the caste, when active rehearsals will take place immediately.
