A TROTTING RECORD

Keen interest was taken at the meeting of the .Auckland Trotting Club yesterday in Dan Patch's attempt to beat his own Australian record of 2min lOsec. This ha did, covering the distance In 2min 9 2-ssec. The time is two-fifths of a second outside the Australasian record,pjt up by Ribbonwood on a clay track, banked at the turns at Christchurch.
® Dan Patch's time constitutes] a world's record for a grass track. He was timed to trot his first quarter in 31 2-ssec, the half mile in lmin 3 2 ssec, the three-quarter in iinin 3Gsec, and the miJe in 2min 9 2-ssec. The champion is a New Zealandbred horse, having been reared in Canterbury. His first appearance in Auckland was four years ago when he won the Great Northern Trotting Qandicap as a three-year-old.
