NEW FEDERAL MINISTRY.

MR FISHEB'S CABINET.

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received April 29, 9.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, April 29. The new Federal Ministry is announced as follows:

I Premier and Treasurer, Mr A. I Fisher. Queensland. Minis'er for External Affairs, Mr S. L. tJatchelor, South Australia. Minister for Defence, Senator G. F. Pearce, West Australia. Attorney-General, Mr W. M. Hughes, New South Wales. • Minister for Home Affairs, Mr King O'Maltay, Tasmania. Minister for Trade and Customs, Mr F. G. Tudor, Victoria. Postmaster-General, Mr Josiah Thomas, New South Wales.

Vice-Presidents of the Executive and Honorary Ministers, Messrs C. Frazer, West Australia; and E. Findley, Victoria. Mr C. K. McDonald, of Queensland, has been chosen as the Labour party's candidate for and Mr Poynton, of South Australia, for the Chairmanship of Committees.

HOW THE MINISTRY WAS CHOSEN.

Received Anril 30, 12-15 a m. MELBOURNE, April 29. Tie Ministry vva3 selected by ballot. Tha returns did not reveal the 1 number of votea cast for each oie. The ballot sufficed for the election of three Ministers in the Senate. In the elacti.M for the Houas of Reprt'ser.talNes each member of the caucus wrote six namer,a)id Mr W. M. Hutthes hei-.ded tha poll, with Mr E. L. Batchejjr second and. Mr F. G. Tudor third. These were the only members who received a majority of the votes cast. The names of a dozen I or so members who had not received I five votes each were then dropped out, and a second Dallot taken. The nine left in were Messrs Bruwn, Thomas, Frazer, Spence, Webster, Mahoa, O'Malley, Matthews and Roberts. The final ballot placed Mr Thomas at the top, Mr King O'Malley second, and Mr Frazer third. The Senate section of tha Ministry has postponed selecting their candidate for the Presidency and Chairmanship of Committees till a fortnight before Parliament bles. The new Ministers were sworn in to-night.
