PAHIATUA NEWS.
Own Correspondent. Thursday. Mr and Mrs E. C. Cox entertained a large number of guests in the Olympic Theatre last night, to celebrate the coming of age of their daughter, Miss Muriel Cox. The guests were received on the stage, which was converted into a drawing room, and decorated with beautiful flowers. Card tables were placed in convenient spots for those who did not favour dancing, and songs were sung by several ladies and gentlemen at intervals during the evening. After supper Mr T. W. Manifold, on behalf of the assembled guests, congratulated Miss Cox on reaching ner majority. Mr Cox responded for his daughter, and a very happy evening was brought to a close by singing r 'Auld Lang Syne." The opening tun of the Woodlands Hunt took place at ,Oete yesterday afternoon, and i 3 voted on all sides as being a record. About fifty followed the hounds, and a good day's sport was experienced. After the run the followers were entertained at afternoon tea by Mrs Bolton. The following were present:— Miss M. Bolton on Scotch Mist*, Miss B. Bolton on Little Mary, Miss Gwen Bolton on Firefly, Miss Sophy Bolton on Dreadnought, Miss, Matthews on Flamingo, Miss Howard on All Gold, Miss Antill oil Bay Boy, Miss McFarlane on Consul, Messrs J. Bolton on Jerico, C. Arrow on Hepere, A. E. Arrow on Sensation, A. Mevted on Greyling, N. Avery on Commodore, C. Burgess on Blackbird. G. Main on Powelka, N. Bicknell on Flirt, A. Vowell on Redleaf, E. Mead on Rapid, W. Singleton on Atanui, W. Halliday on John Paul, H. Hunt on Corrcboree, W. Naylor on Sunset, R. Martin on Maori Guide, W. Hewat ou Heather Jock, H. Brooks on Filius, R. Gregory on uusky, C. H. Ranby on Topsy, 0. H. Druce od Sam, H. F. Cobb on The Trial, S. Whyte on Miss Hippo, J. McTavish on Lord Ullin, C. Mackay on Princess, F. Sidey on Emblem. As quite a number of the members have the Saturday half holiday an extra run will be held on Saturday next, 23rd inst, at Mr Avery's. The Mayor and Borough and County Council were present on the railway station this morning to bid farewell to Lord Plunket. The Mayor in a brief speech presented his Excellency with a farewell address from the residents of Pahiatua. Mr Hodgins spoke on behalf of the residents of the surrounding country. His Excellency in a short speech returned thanks, and as the train moved off three hearty cheers were given for Lord and Lady Plunket.
