(Own Correspondent.) Thursday. At a meeting of the Court Marquis of Normanby, A.0.F., last evening, it was decided to inform the Master con Friendly Council that the Lodge would not be entering a team in the forthcoming seven-a-side football tournament.
The marriage of Mr John McGuinness, third son of Mr J. McGuinness. senr., of South Carterton, to Miss Minnie Lev/is, second daughter of Mr John Lewis, of Silverstream, and formerly of the Wairarapa, was sclemnised at the residence of Mrs Dyer, sister of the bridegroom, Belvedere, this afternoon. Only the immediate relatives of the young couple were present at the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. K. Young, Vicar of St. Mark's. Miss B. McGuinness attended the bride as bridesmaid, and Mr C. McGuinness was best man, Mr and Mrs McGuinness will reside in Carterton. At a well-attended meeting held here last evening it was decided to form a soccer football club, to be known as the Carterton Association Football Club. Mr J. Herdman was appointed, secretary, and the membership fee was fixed at 2s 6d. A practice was held tt,is a^ernooi. Mr Adam Armstrong has heen returned unopposed as Mayor of Carterton. At the residence of the bride's parents. Parkvale, yesterday afternoon, Mr A. S. White was married to Miss Blanche Nix, eldest daughter of Mr L. Nix. The bride was attended by Misses A. Nix and A. "White as bridesmaids, and Mr N. Pownall was best man, and Mr K. Hix groomsman. The nuptial Knot was tied by the Rev. J. T. Turnbull, of Katikati,- in the presence of a number of friends ,rfnd relatives. The honeymoon is being spent in Taranafci.
A small cottage at Belvedere, owned by Mr R. Hooker, and occupied by Mrs McMillian, was completely destroyed by fire this morning. The building was old and isolated, and before assistance could be obtained was a mass of ruins. jAn alarm was sounded upon the firebell, but on learning the locality of the outbreak the brigade found their appliances would be of no assistance, and pulied back into the station. It originated in the kitchen, the occupants at the me being out harnessing a conveyance to come into town. Included in the contents destroyed was a collection of curios from a Rajah's Palace obtained during the Indian Mutiny by Major Rolls, Mrs McMillian's father. There is an insurance of £SO in the Guardian office on the building, and the Commercial Union holds a risk of £75 on the contents, a few of which were saved. The outbreak is set down to a defective chimney. The death is announced of Mr Lucas Teal, of South Carterton, at the age of 65 years. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon. Some difficulty is being experienced In getting local lady enthusiast* in hockey to attend a meeting, for the purpose of recorganising the Club. It has now been decided that players be Invited to meet in Carrington Park for practice, and should sufficient roll up a team or teams will be selected.
Kepresentatives from Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., last evening, j waited upon Bro. W. Fisher, at his residence, South Carterton, and sympathised with him in his recent illness. which had necessitated him. speneding seven and a half months in the Hospital at Masteron. On behalf of the Lodge, Bro. H. Hart presented Bro. Fisher with a cheque for £4O, subscribed fay the sister lodges under the jurisdiction cf the Grand Lodge of the North Island, in response to an appeal from Totara Lodge. Bro. Fisher leaves within the course of a few days for Christchurch, where he will consult a specialist. Mrs A. Anderson, ot ,Clareville, who has been an inmate of Dr. Smyth's private hospital was able to leave the institution yesterday convalescent. The local Fire Brigade have been advised that Wennett, the Australian champion light-weight boxer, is to visit the town on Tuesday next, *?hen ha will give lessons in the art of self-defence. Mr Fawcett, late of Masterton, has been engaged to supply the music for the Fire Brigade dance next

A wedding of considerable interest is to take place here on May 11th, the contracting couplu being well known and popular. Mr B. Fell, who has been under treatment in Dr. Smyth's private hospital suffering with a poisoned leg. has been discharged from the institution cured. He ran a stake in the leg j;jst below the knee, and the wound spread nearly down to the ankle, and eventually the skin came away. The doctor grafted fresh skin on to the leg.
