TRAMWAY AND GASWORKS RECEIPTS.
GOOD SURPLUSES SHOWN. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 19. = The Wellington Klectric Tramway system has closed the financial year with a net surplus of £6,123. Compared with the previous ye-ur the figures are most satisfactory, the net surplus being £lB9 greater,than was the case on.March 315t,19U9-£6,123 compared with £5,934. CBRISTCHURCH, Aprill9. The Tramway Board finished the year with a surrlus of £10,145, after paying all charges. This is the best result since the Exhibition year. j The City Council is having trouble with its workmen over paymeinHior holidays. The men wanted to send a deputation to the Council from their union, but the Council declined to receive outsider. There is now prospect of a warm controversy on the subject of recognition of the General Labourers' 'Union, to which all the Council's labourers belong. The Lytteltoii municipal gasworks made a profit of £6,590 last year, out of which £SOO will be utilised in relief of rates.
