CARTERTON NEWS.
(Own Correspondent.) ' Saturday. In reply to thD secretary of the Ca:terton Gun Club, who sought information as to whether the shooting season was to be open for one month in this district as in other districts, the secretary of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society has stated that the society has been notified by the Minister for Internal Affairs, that he intends to gazette the seasons in 'the districts, including Carterton, from May 14th to June 14th, 1910. Hares,and Californian quail only may be taken or killed, no native game. ■ Mr W. Fisher, of South Cartertos, who has been an inmate of the Masterton Hospital for a considerable period, has recovered sufficiently as to be able to leave the institution for his home. Mr Fisher leaves here next week for Oxford, Canterbury, where his people reside, and where he will spend a health recruiting holiday. The Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society hold their annual meeting here on Thursday, April 28th. The business includes consideration of a notice of motion by Mr C. Reid, that six days be allowed for the butter fat competition in place of ten as at present. Officers and committeemen retiring are:—President, Mr H. R. Bunny; Vice-Presidents, Messrs E. Tyer. | A friendly eame of football was played on the recreation grounds this afternoon, when the High School boys were defeated by the Hikurangi College boys by six points to three. The weather to-day was a little better than that of the past two days, the wind prevailing not being near as violent.. Mr Purcell Webb, organist of Knox Church, Masterton, is to give an organ recital in St. Mark's Church on Friday evening next.
