HALLEY'S COMET.

By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 15. Mr Stevenson, F.R.A.S., reports having seen Halley's Cornet about five o'clock this morning. It was seen through the clouds, and the increasing twilight made observation diffi cult Mr btevenson anticipates that it will be a more conspicuous object in another week. As it is now rapidly approaching us there is possibility, he thinks, ot the comet's tail reaching to Venus about May 2nd, as the comet will apparently pass ne-ar that planet. The comet is to the ea<*t of the planet Venus at the present time.

Halley's comet is reported to have been seen from Wellington this morning, says the "Post" of 3as.t evening. Miss Marchant, of this city, informs us that she detected it at 5.15, the eastern heavens towards the horizon beins4 veiled by a mass of clouds, which prevented earlier observation. Through the telescope it appeared as a gently glowing but distinct nebulous mass, its position apparently corresponding with that reported from Wanganui. j
