TE WHARAU NOTES.
(Own Correspondent). Friday. Mr Herman Nitz shot two fine 12 pointers last week, one being a particularly fine head. Mr "Ted" Welch, of Masterton, who was in the same party, was less fortunate, not having secured a head This sportsman returned to town on Sunday. Mr J . Tatham, of Homewood, ac companied by Mr Wilson, a sportsman recently arrived from Scotland, have set out on a deerstalking expedition in the Martinborough district. The Vennell Brothers, of rifle fame, were in camp for the greater part of the week, but were unfortunate in not securing any good heads. Mr and Mrs Preshaw. of Brackenfield, expect to entertain a large shooting party next week. The Te Wharau Rifle Club held its final "shoot" for trophies and prizes on Saturday last. The weather conditions were not favourable. Some excellent shooting, however* was recorded. Mr Reg Vennell was top «corer and winner of the cup and shield, two valuable trophies. Mr E. E. Vennell was second, and secured the Club's challenge shield. The annual meeting of the Club will oe held on Saturday next. This being the quiet season on the stations and farms, a great many men engaged en these have gone away for their annual holday. The annual meeting for the election members of the School Committee will take place on the 25th of April. More shooting licenses have been taken out in this district'this season than ever previously.
