MAGISTRATE'S COURT RETURNS.

Seventy-two persons were taken into custody during the period, 69 of whom were males and three females. Six of these were discharged for want of evidence or want of ' prosecution, - : '!= ten cases were dismissed on ■ l . —its. There Wv.-. ; . . of peremptory imprisonment, anu one was released under the First Offenders' Probation Act. Seven orders were made d r iing the quarter, while in three cases convictions were entered and defendants discharged with a caution. The criminal fees paid in Htamps totalled £8 lis, and the fines £36 18s, making a total of £45 9s. Forty-nine old age pensions were granted, two were refused and three are pending. ! THE SUPREME COURT. i Court sat three days for the hearing of criminal c?ses, during which four indictments were takuD. Of these three persons were convicte ! and one acquitted. One day was devoted to civil cases and judgment was entered \ in one case. The Court sat once in 1 chambers and dealt with two motions, \ It also sat once in banco, when four appeals from inferior Courts were ( heard. A decree nisi was granted in * a petition for divorce. In bank- 1 ruptcv, five debtors' petitions were 1 dealt and two creditors'. There were r six adjudications, and nine discharges s were granted. Probate was granted 1 in five estates, while letters of ad- * ministration were granted in four a others.
