MASTERTON FIRE BOARD.
The. members of the Masterton Fire Board met at one o'clock yesterday in the secretary's office. There were present,—Messrs 6. Pragnell (chairman], H, E. Kempthorne, C. Pearce, J. H. Pauling and J. C. Ewington. Apologies were received from Mr R." M. Simpson and Mr J. P. Prentko for unavoidable gb|enc«/ _ The seal of the Board was affixed to the contract between the Boar 3 and Mr H. A. Jones. If an acceptable tender is received within, a limit of five per cent, of the estimate the work will be done under the supervision of Mr Jones on terms arranged, otherwise the agreement will be null and void! _ Correspondence was received iipib the Town Clerk, covering an estimate of cost from ,the Superintendent of Electric Lines for the erection of wires and poles for the electric street fire alarm. letter was referred to a committee to report oh at the meeting to be HeiCJinT Inspector Hugo in the meantime to be communicated. with ,in respect to the installation. Mr T. Jenkins, superintendent of the Fire, Brigade, having inspected premises in the business area, and found the by-law on the ac cumulation of inflammable goods, packing cases, etc , was fairly well observed. He calls attention to the fact that a considerable quantity of kerosene is stored in the business area,, there being in one instance over forty cases so stored. He also reported on the occasion of the fire in den Gen's shop the water pressure recorded on the guage at the fire station was 301ba only. That owing to some repeating accommodation in tbehfdresters' Hall; tw:o of the exits had :been; closed,, and he recommended providing another exit in the side wall; He asked that the painting of tha steam :fireengine be now put in handiv;He also stated that Inspector Hugochad paid a 5 official visit and drilled'.the men, afterwards giving them-an address on fire prevention matters. The superintendent reported oB "the: fire alarms given,. among others the fire at the Club Hotel.
