RACING. | | TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland.") Although not so numerous, as expected the acceptances for to-mor-row's events at the Wellington Racing Club's meeting are sufficiently large to ensure reallv good racing. Practically the whole of the acceptors are in excellent racing trim at piesent, and the eight events to be decided are of a very open character. Naturally most interest will centre in the Thompson and Railway Handicaps. For this double Armlet and Perle a'Or, representatives of the Greenwood stable, Canterbury, and trained by R. Mason, ate at the shortest price. There are many who doubt Armlet's ability to run out a solid mile with 8.13, but doubtless she has been well tried over the distance by the astute trainer, so there is no need for argument ou the score. Others well fancied for the Thompson Handicap are North East, Equitas, Tumut, Sir-Tristram, Sir Frisco and Lady Medallist, while for the Kailway Handicap Effort, Kiliniini, Boanerges, Advantage and Gipsy Belle will be at short prices. No less than twenty-two candidates remain in the Challenge Stake 3 of 660 sovs, seven furlongs. Among the most likely starters may be mentioned Penates, Diabolo, Formby, Killaloo, Lady Kilcheran, Flitaway, Gold Lace and Polymorphous. With such a field of good performers the race should be one worthy of a progressive Club as well as the title of the race. The gallops at Trentham yesterday morning were not of a very attractive nature, although some of the times recorded were fast. Golden Loop and North East ran half a mile on the grass in 48 3-ssec, the latter showing to best advantage. Sea Queen and Magneto took lmin 4 1 ssec for five furlongs, and Swimming Belt ran six furlongs in lmin 18 2-ssec. Tumut and Cronstadt were together at the finish of four furlongs in.sosecs, and Advantage beat Lord Kelvin over a similar distance in 50 l-ssec. Armlet, the favourite for the Thompson Handicap, accounted for Perle d'Or by several lengths in running six furlongs in lmin 17sec. St. Felix was too good for Laius, six furlongs, taking lmin 20 sec. Others to execute satisfactory working gallops were Husbandman, Kilwinning, Sharpshooter, Flitaway, Tenterhook, Salen , Effort, Sir Frisco, Boanerges, Bcllin, Faunus, Idealism, Diabolo, Bourbon, Truganini, King, Polymorphous King Soult, Audax and Explosive.
