CARTERTON NEWS.
(Own Correspondent.) Monday
While playing in a practice game of football a young man, named Douglas Smith, of Dalefield, sustained a fractured collar bone. Dr. Smyth attended to the injury. The hockey season will open in Carterton on Thursday next, when the local club will hold a practice. They hope to get in four full pactices before the championship fixtures commence. A large congregation attended the Methodist Church last evening when the Rev. W. J Elliott gave his farewell sermon. The choir was particularly strong, and their fine singing added greatly to the service. The Rev. Mr Elliott and family leave here in the nstorning for Whangarei. Miss Minnie White, who has for some weeks past been relievinß teacher at the Ballance School, this morning, took up similar duty at the Dnlefieid School. The annual parishioners meeting of St. Mark's Church, will be held near the end of the month. Toe many friends of Mr R. Fell will hear with regret that he has found it necessary to Dr. Smyth's private hospital to receive surgical attention to an injured leg. "
