MASTERTON TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Managers of the Masterton Technica 1 School was held last evening in the secretary's (Mr N D. Bunting) office. There were present Messrs E. Fe ; &t (chairman), C. E. Daniell. W. H. Jackson, E. H. Waddington, and the Very Rev. Dean McKennna. The secretary reported that the arithmetic and English classes (Miss Munro) with upwards of f>>rty pupils commenced en March 22nd. The shorthnnd and typewriting clashes, with about 44 pupils under Miss Bunting and Mihs Butement (two separate classes) also started on the samedatej as also did the dressmaking class under Miss Johnston. The latter class has about thirty pupils. The secretary further stated that no classes had been formed for woodworking and woodcarving. Several inquiries had been made regarding the latter subject by intending pupilß, if such a class were again formed, and the secretary was instructed to advertise and see what support would be forthcoming tor the forming of both the above classes, and al.-o to inquire for instructors for these classes. In the event of suitable instructors being obtained, and the required , number of pupils willing to take up the courses being available, the secretary was authorised to complete arrangements on the bame terms as thuse of last year. Mr E. H. Waddington said he would like to see classes in French started in connection with the institution. Mr W. H. Jackson said he thought there were various subjects that ; would be more beneficial than ! French. He understood there were several people in Masterton who would be prepared to give private tuition in this subject. Mr Waddington remarked that he knew of five intending pupils who would be prapared to join such a class. Mr C. E.. Daniell said the cultivation of different languages was a good thing, and the matter was left in the hands of the secretary to make further inquiries into. The secretary said that he had been approached on the matter of starting an electrical class, in connection with
the school. Mr Daniell sail that electrical transmission would be a big item in the near future, and he favoured such a class being formed, if possible. After discussion this matter was also left in the hands of the secretary to further inquire into. The matter of providing a ladies' cloak room was discussed, and Mr Daniell offered to sketch out a plan of a room for this purpose and submit the same to the next meeting of Managers. Tnis offer was accepted with thanks. The treasurer's statement showed a credit balance at date of £259 18s 6d, and accounts amounting to £7 2s /d were passed for payment.
