NEW ZEALAND DEFENCE SCHEME.
TWO IMPORIANT OFFICES'' CREATED. ENGLISH DIRECTORS TO BE APPOINTED. By Telegraph—Press "Association. WELLINGTON, March 31. A development of the.Defence Department's headquarters organisation, due to the important extension of its activities proved in the Defence Act of last session, has just been arranged. The general staff, under Colonel Robin, will be increased by creating the positions of Directors of Military Training and Education and Director of Operations and Intelligence, these important positions will be filled by two qualified Imperial General Staff officers* who are to arrive in a few months from England. Meanwhile ths work of the Director of Military Training and Education will be undertaken by LitiUt.-Colonel Chaytor. The duties comprise the education of officers in staff operations, issue of manuals and text books, the training of all arms of the service, the organisation of the corps of instruction and the control of staff rides. Major Lascelles will temporarily fill the position of Director of Operations and Intelligence, which deals with the general organisation, preparation of defence schemes, military operations of all sorts, staff rides, the collection and exchange of information among the forces of the Dominion and the preparation of maps and plans. Both officers will be located in Wellington. Lieut.-Colonel Tuson and Major Lascelles, who are in the Imperial service, will leave for England in about four months.
