* (Own Correspondent). Wednesday. ' A youth named Alfred Kebble was brought before Mr J. D. Wilson,, J.P., this morning, charged with J attempted arson. Evidence was called to show that the accused attempted to set fire to the dwelling by lighting the curtains and upsetting a kerosene lamp. The case was remanded until April 6th, bail being refused. The temporary arrangements for! conducting the work of the District High School are complete. Work will be resumed on Monday, 4th April. Classes up to the First Standard will meet in the infant school; the remaining classes will meet in, the three rooms of the old school buildings, and the English Church schoolroom. The schoolroom at pre ■ sent is being lined, and fcning supplied with the necessary conveniences. A special meeting of the Hospital Trustees will be held in the" Council Chambers to-morrow afternoon (Thursday) at 4 p.m. A full attend- ' ance is requested, as the business is of an important character. A very pretty wedding took place at:the residence of the bride's parents, Konini, the contracting parties being Miss M. Bissett and Mr J. Wachman, of Gisborne. The ceremony was performed by the Re v. W. H. Speer. ;; s Mr W. Halliday, . of MaKairo, has*purchased the properties owned by Messrs G. F. Sidey and J. Strange; of Pori. Mr Halliday is leaving on an extended trip to the Old Country. The property will be managed in the meantime by Mr W. Halliday, junr. The cricket match which was to have been played to-day between teams representing Pahiatua and had to be' postponed account of the inclement weather. COMMERCIAL. The-New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd;, "report having held their weekly sale to-day; when they had a fair of sheep and cattle. T#e attendance nf buyers was small, no: doubt owing to the holidays, and in conuequence bidding was rather slow at times. However, at the finish of the sale; they have to record a practical clearance at prices as follows:—■ Sound mouth ewes, ss, 5s 3d to , 6s; lambs, 5s to 5s 6d; wethers, lis ?d to 12s; rams at late rates; bullocks, £5; store cows, 50s to 60s; weaners, 15s to 22s 6d.
