A hurricane raged at Noumea on Sunday last, causing great damage. Houses were unroofed, telegraph lines blown down, and roads washed away by the high seas. The German gunboat Cormorant lost several boats in the gale.

THE GALE AT FIJI. DAMAGE NOT SO GREAT AS STATED. Received March 30, 10.30 a.m. SYDNEY, March 30. Private cables from Fiji show that fears regarding the extent of the damage by the hurricane are unfounded. The damage is chiefly confined to Suva, and the vicinity of Letuka. Ba, Lautoka and w Taviuni escaped damage, but it will be a few days before the effect of the'storm on any of the outlying islands is known.
