CARTERTON NEWS.

Thursday. In the Magisrtate's Court, this afternoon, a man named John Mackay. on a charge of stealing a pair of trousers from a local tailoring establishment, was sentenced to a month's impiisonment.
I Mr R. J. Chapman left Carterton, this morning, on a short trip to Sydney for the benefit of his health. He sails in the Manuka to-morrow. At a meeting of of the Trustees of the local Methodist Church, mst evening, "the Rev. W. J. Elliott presiding, a credit of £2O was announced, the result of assistance given the Trusr by the recent bazaar. Several improvements are to be effected to the interior of the Church. A committee waft set up to bring forward a report to the quarterly meeting next week, concerning a change of residence for the superintending Minister. At the next meeting of tn e loca Borough Council, the Gas Committee is to bring up a report as to where additional street tamps are required, and in the meantime a lamp is to be erected at the junction of Broadway and Wheatstone streets, near the railway station, and the position of the lamp near Seddon street is to be altered so as to light that street more efficiently.
