PHENOMENAL RAINFALL,

United Press Association—Py Electric Telegraph Copyright. Keceived March 22, 12.10 a.m. BRISBANE, March 21. The Fitzroy river at Rockhampton is in high flood.

Sixteen inches of rain has fallen in the present month, and the lowlying parts of the town are inundated.

Residents are removing to higher ground. The wharves are covered, and much damage has been done to goods.

The floods caused great destruction in the surrounding districts, several mining dams have been swept away, and the train service is disorganised, and there are many wash-aways. The river Warrigo, at Augatella, is a mile wide, and is still rising. The township is largely under water. At Mackay over a hundred inches of rain has fallen since the beginning of the year.
