AN ALARMING LANDSLIDE.
ON THE SHORES OF LAKE TAUFO. ONE NATIVE KILLED. * OTHERS INJURED.
A HILL STILL SLIDING.

The Taapo correspndent of the "New Zealand Herald" reports that an alarming landslide has occurred at the native settlement of Waibi, a mile westward of Tokaanu, on the shores of Lake Taupo. Yesterday morning the- hillside behind the village began to bodily slip away, and it then forced it way to the lake, carrying whares, housed and everything in its,track. Tne landslide has now spread out about three chains into the lake in deep water. Unfor-° tunately the natives had little warning, and one of them, named Wi Tamaiwhara was killed, and others injured through the falling debrip. The hill 13 still sliding and the natives are hurrying away from the Waihi village, as they expect the whole place to bj demnlished;, It is | only a short distance from wi,er<- the other memorable landslip occurred in March, 1846, when the village of Te Rapa was overwhelmed by a landslide, and all the inhabitants were killed, except three who escaped One of the latter was the mother of Wi Tamaiwhara now killed in this slide. , The natives are in a great state ot exciteme >t, and are hurrying off with their household goods and escaping from what ihey consider the impending doom of the beautiful village of Waihi.
