The fifth annual report ut the secretary of the Lawn Tennis Aasocia tion of Australasia, Mr Thos. H. Hicks, to be presented at the annual general meeting to be held at Sydney on March 23rd, has been issued to members. After giving details of the results of the international matches, which were most successful in every way, the secretary expresses regret that attention has again to be drawn to the fact that all the States \ were not represented at the Australian Championship Tournament held at Perth in October. These being the ! roost important championship events \ of the year in Australasia, it should : be the aim. he says, each associa- ] tion to be represented, and thus . make the contests of mure national importance than has been the case in • the past. | The 1909-10 balance sheet presented with the report is an interesting one. It shows that the association lis now in funds to the amounnt of £9lO 19s Vt'.The gate receipts from the international competition amounted to £1,503 8s Bd, The grant : to the United States National Lawn! Tennis Association (Davis Cup chal- ! lungera) was £386 10s 3d, and the , cost of organising the international ' matches £852 Is 3d. The total receipts ■, from all sources during the year ,| were £2,363. 10s sd, and the ex- j penses £1,4661 5s Sd. '. From "Austral" in the Releree ■ comes an excellent suggestion that Australia (no doubt he means Australasia) as champion nation, should announce a "championship-of-the-word" event to be played at Davis Cup time. Our governing body should certainly find time to give this suggestion its best considera tion.
