(Own Correspondent). Tuesday. A n u.ling of the committee of the Puhialua Racing Club will take place '■ in- ii'ht, in the Commercial Hotel. A fue.sentntbn of a framed enlargement of the stewards of the club will be presented to Captain J. B. Whyte, as a small recognition of his many valuable services to the cause of racing in this district. The secretary of the Forty Mile Bush Athletic Society informs me that they expect a very successful meeting on St. Patrick's Day at Harnua. There are 29 events on the programme, and record entries have b-.'en received. Mr P. J. Quirk's herd of Jersey j cattle is to be disposed of by pub- , lie auction to-morrow (Wednesday) at Mangamaire. Mr Quirk is leaving on an extended tour through Europe. SiOCK MARKET. ! Messrs Abraham and Williams, j Ltd.. report on their Pahiatua sale of 15th instant as follows:—Sheep wore yarded fully up to advertised numbers, close on 10,000 coming forward. The yarding of cattle was also j exceptionally large, young steers and bullocks selling especially well. The sheep yarded realised good values, j and we have to report practically a total clearance. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual fortnightly sale in their Managhao yards on Tuesday, the 15th March, when they offered fully up to advertised 1 numbers, both of cattle and sheep. , There was keen competition for all classes of stock, and we can report a I total clearance except one lot of 'sheep. We quote as follows:—Two ; and 4-tooth ewes, 9s 8d to 10s 3d; 6- ' tooth ewes, 13s to 13s 2d; 6 and 8tooth ewes,, lis Id to 12s 2d; 4 and | syr ewes, 7s 8d to 9s 2d; mixed aged i poor conditioned, 6s 8d to 7s; lambs, 7s to 8s 3d; rams, 10s 6d to lfgns. Cattle. —Three-year steers to £5; springing heifers £3 i2s 6d to £4 3s 6d; empty forward heifers, £3 18s to £4 3s 6d; 18 month heifers in cal£ i£2 108; Jersay 2£yr heifers in calf, £4 10s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., held their weekly stock sale in the Pahiatua j yards yesterday. They report:—We had a good ent r v of sheep and a medium entry of cattle. Prices compared favourably with late rates. We quote: —Sheep: Two tooth to f.m. ewes, 9s 6d; s.m. ewes, 5s to 6s; rams, 16s to If gns. Cattle? Weaners, 15s to 20s 6d; store cows, £2 15s to £3 0s Sd. Horses: to £5 ss.
