The Rev. D. C. Bates' summary and forecast is as follows:—The barometer has fallen the neighbourhood of Cook Strait during the last 24 hours, and heavy rain has been experienced in many parts south ward of New Plymouth and Napier. Northerly winds, moderate to strong, have prevailed northward of Kawhia and Napier, and westerlies strong to gale elsewhere. Present indications are for a westerly gale northward of Kawhia and Kapier, and a southerly, veering to south-easterly, elsewhere. Heavy rain is probable generally, and especially on the West Cast of the North Island, and East Coast of the South Island, with rivers flooded. The barometer is rising fast.
