MR ISAACS RE-ELECTED,

LONDON, March 13.

Mr Rufus Isaacs, K.C., who had to seek re-election for the Reading seat, consequent on his appointment to the Solicitor-Generalship, vice Sir Samuel Evans, elevated to the High Court Bench, was re-elected unopposed.

Mr Isaacs publicly thanked the Conservative Association for its graceful act in refraining from putting up a candidate against him. Mr Keir Hardie, speaking at Swansea said scma arrangement was possible in the way of allowing the Government to drag out a tolerated existence beyond June, but the Labour Party must not meanwhile be content to simply act as piops to the Government, and they must be careful lest the were buried in its ruins. He added with reference to the threatened contest for Mid-Glamor-gan, where Mr Hartshorn, Socialist, is in the field, that rathei than hold seats by the grace of the Liberals or Tories he preferred that Labour should be without representation untill they won them by their own strength.
