The National Sheepbreeders' Asso ciation wrote stating the eleventh International Conference would be held in Liverpool on June-20th next, when a ipaper would be read by Mr Alfred Mansell on the desirability or otherwise of the oiling and colouring of show sheep or of any foreign substance being used in the preparation j of sheep for^exhibition. Mr J. Stuckey was appointed the ! delegate at the Conference. Mr W. iPerry stated that it had been held that at wab no use making regulations as they could not be enforced. Rules might be made not to dress sheen, but it was possible that it could ibe done so skilfully as to evade detection. Dressing had got to be the fashion in the Uld Country, bat he would be sorry to see it in vogue m New Zealand. They might move a resolution that this committee was against any excessive dressing, but it was possible that it would not do much good. Mr Pilmer pointed out that it should not be forgotten that there were also skilful judges, who would detect any artificial dressing. He suggested that the matter stand over until nest mieeting, when members would ihave time to more fully consider the .question. The Ground Committee reported ae follow.:—It was decided to instruct the caretaker to commence to remove the sheep pens to the Solway grounds at once. It was also decided that the sub-committee ap pointed to wait en the railway authorities with reference to the siding at Solway be requested to do so as soon as possible.; that a special meeting of the Ground Committee be called to meet at Solway, on March 19th, at 10 a m.
The Finance Committee reported astollow:—lt was resolved that it be a recommendation to the incoming Genaral Committee to take steps to reduce the workinar expenses in connection with the Ram Fair; that the sub committee be instructed to complete the sale of the old grounds. Mr 0. C. Cooper moved the adoption of the Finance Committee's report. The Committee had gone very carefully through the figures, which shawed the result of this year's Show to be about the same as last year. Members, however, would be an a better, position to discuss the figures when the balance sheets were distributed. The Solway Stock Fair fcad
resulted in the splendid sum of J £678 9s lid being realised. Whilst on the subject of the Fair members would nu doubt remember that Mr McLaren had had a ram knocked down to him at the sale for 10s. No one appreciated that "little joke"; more keenly than Mr McLaren, and the sequel to it was that when an account for £lO 10s was rendered Mr McLaren's prompt response was a . cheque for that amount The Chairman said the liberal response to the appeal was most gratifying, and the result had exceeded their expectations. He moved that the Association write to Mr W. B. Allen expressing its thanks to him for the suggestion made in regard to the nolding of the Stock Fair, and also for his donation. This was carried unanimously. It was also reoolved that a vote of thanks be passed to the Masterton auctioneers for conducting the jstock sale free of charge, and further support generally.
Mr O. C. Cooper, in returning thanks on behalf of the auctioneers, said they were only too pleased to asisst in any way to further the interests of the Association. Mr J. B. Moodie also spoke an similar terms. . .
