THE LOSS OF THE DUCO.
-»—» •»• CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON March 13. In the Supreme Court, yesterday, in Chambers, the pending claims against the Wellington Harbour Ferries, Ltd., for compensation, arising out of the loss of the Duco, were mentioned. The Company has applied under the Shipping and Seamen Act to limit its liability to £ls per ton, and to stay all Supreme Court proceedings until the Admiralty Court has decided whether or not the Duco was lost through the owners' actual fault or privity. MrC. P. Skerrett, K.C., for the Company, said certain liability would be admitted, the defendants to the motion having contended that the Company must admit liability up to £ls per ton before going into the Admiralty Court, but not at the present stage; it would not be admitted before a decree njsi was made. The Chief Justice granted leave for a petition to be delivered to the various defendants to the motion, and the matter will come up for further argument next week.
