FATAL ACCIDENT.

By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 14. A fatality occurred on board the Huddart Parker Company's S.S. Wimmera at 3.10 p.m. to-day, whereby Alex. Morriss, who was acting as hatchman at No. 2 hatch, was killed. The steamer was taking on wheat, which was being loaded in between decks. Morriss was standing at the side of the hatch with his foot resting on the cosmings. A sling of sacks of wheat swinging on board touched him on the leg, arid he overbalanced. He was thrown heavily into the hold, and split his skull on the coamings of the "tween" decks The unfortunate man was raised at once, but died as soon as he reached the wharf. Deceased was an old resident in Lyttelton, and leaves a widow, three sons, and four daughters,
